For around 35 years, Germany has been recycling paper, metal and plastic very diligently. There is an established recycling industry. Nevertheless, more and more new processes are now emerging. Why? Are there any problems?

Recycling carbon black from old tyres is nothing new. Work on this technology has been going on for over 40 years. Carbon black is a relatively valuable industrial raw material whose production through selective combustion is much more energy-intensive than recovery from used tyres. Recycling is highly valued. Nevertheless, there is still "a lot of room for improvement" in the recovery rate. Why is that?
