For several decades - and increasingly so - legislation and opinion trends have brought about remarkable, successful upheavals in the chemistry and technology of paints and other coating materials: Today, waterborne coatings, powder coatings and radiation-curing and ultra-low-solvent materials already dominate, complemented by technological innovations to save resources such as energy, water and other raw materials. This article provides an overview of the special features, possible applications, advantages and also limitations of these coatings.
